Graduating from the University of Alabama in 1968, the lifelong Mobilian was commissioned as an officer in the US Army Airborne and served in the 7th Cavalry Regiment 3rd Infantry Division on the German/Czech border during the Cold War.
Married to the former Lea Gunn, Erk has two adult sons and 5 grandchildren that keep him busy embarking on "Pawdy" activities as often as possible. He is active in several faith based initiatives and has ventured to Africa and South America on over 10 international mission trips following his passion to serve others and spread the Gospel.
